What innovation can do to your life
It’s an ability that everyone has, yet they often think they don’t. It’s about the power of innovation, the intensity and amplitude of technical advancement. In case you’ve at any moment wondered about someone’s creative ability, think about that, you can create and innovate as well. It just requires investment and knowledge and time. Everyone is born creative, everyone has potential to innovate.
You know from your own experience how long it took to learn to ride the bike or learning to drive the car or become attentive enough to avoid doing the same mistake again. It’s the same with innovation, you can’t innovate over night. It takes a lot of practice and a lot of time before the mind reaches the creative mood effortlessly. I’ll try to show you a couple of tips on how to bring innovation into your life.
First of all you know there are a lot of people questioning your abilities. Try to stop listening what other people say, block those words trying to induce you the “you can’t do it” status. It’s mostly noise you don’t need in the creative process. When you innovate you have to be yourself with your resources and focused on your goal. If you have an original idea, don’t waste your time and effort trying to influence people to come into your world, if they don’t support you from the very beginning, if they don’t trust you, they don’t deserve your time and effort. Of course, it’s totally different when they try to get you on the right path when you’re heading in the wrong direction, that’s something that you should care about. But when you’re backed up with knowledge and you see yourself getting closer to your goal, don’t let yourself influenced by others. Stay away from negative criticism and keep working more. If all the inventors listened to their critics, we would most likely still live in the medieval times.
Invest time and energy in it. But do it wisely. In case your creative work or innovation are based on your free time, it’s not about quitting your day job entirely. There’s no need to do it. Read, learn about time management and work discipline and focus on your day job when you’re at the office, focus on your private work when you’re doing it, in time it will get easier to squeeze both in your time.
Exercise. Take a walk. Run a mile or two. Exercising clears and relaxes your mind and allows for anything to pop up. You will be even more creative and innovative. You know I’m right, I experienced this myself, everything’s more clear when your mind is clear. Ideas find their way to your mind and you’ll be surprised.
Record your dreams. I’m not talking about fantasies during your sleep. But if you have a nice and creative dream, jot down those notes, you might need them sometime. I had a dream that eventually led me to writing a novel. It was all based on a night dream. When you have some spare time, let’s say, while commuting, and some ideas come to your mind, write them down. Don’t let them escape when you first get distracted from visualizing your dream or project. It’s something extremely simple to do and as mentioned, it might help you later on in your work. Those written words might help you or just create an innovative spark in you at a certain moment in time.
Find your own style. Most people can easily differentiate a Van Gogh painting from a Matisse. It’s the same with you. If possible to create a differentiator, something that makes you memorable, put it into practice, make it your personal signature. It will also help people remember you and then recommend you based on that fact you’ll have a personal style, something to put you in a different place in their minds. You must not be in the crowd.
Nothing will work without passion. What wakes you up in the mornings? What keeps your internal fire? What is the one thing that you’ll bite the dust in case you don’t do? If you’re not doing something that you want to do, then you don’t really want to do it. What will make you unstoppable is your passion. Find it and embrace it.
Let’s talk a bit about inspiration. It may happen to have moments when you simply don’t feel inspired. Don’t punish yourself, it’s normal and it happens. Inspiration hits when you least expect it to, that’s why it’s called: inspiration. Combine it with the above advice on writing your ideas down, that’s a perfect match. You never know when you’ll be hit by Madame Inspiration. You may be on the train, on the subway, in a bus or while on the stadium. Get your pen and paper and help it make way into the real life. So, have a pen and paper within your arm’s reach at all times.
Are these things that you can easily do. For sure. Keep you passion flame burning, don’t over stress, take it easy and be prepared. The rest is knowledge put into practice.
